Dr Aurash Karimi
After doing a BSc in Maths and Computer Science at the University of Nottingham and an MSc in Scientific Computing at the University of Warwick, Aurash started a PhD at Warwick which focused on modelling of tertiary steel manufacturing. In particular, he applied density functional theory in order improve current modelling capability of heat treatment processes such as nitriding in vacancy-rich conditions.
Within the sustain project he hopes to find systematic modelling methods to optimise steelmaking processes for a range of parameters such as cost, waste, and yield. This will be achieved through physically modelling of the underlying reactions which is made more robust using techniques from data science.
