Dr Peng Gong is Research Associate (RA) in the materials science and engineering department, University of Sheffield on the Theme 5 New Processes for New products, Task 9-product development, late stage definition and integration programme. The project is focusing on the new compositions design of super Cr steels for excellent large scale manufacturing properties with efficiency phase transformation control.

With her expertise on the alloy compositions design through modelling, manufacturing, microstructure analysis, she has previously been involved in two projects as RA: DARE and HeMS. In the DARE project, she successfully designed a new type of maraging TRIP steels which is cheaper, simpler to manufacture, and possesses superior mechanical properties than existing Maraging steels. In the HeMS project, to understand how the hydrogen to break on the industrial steels, the nano-scaled dislocation cells structure has been observed by the advanced equipment and the modelling prove the stress concentration on the cell structures which induce the initiation of the crack. All those works have become the guided research on the new alloy design for the resistance to the hydrogen embrittlement.
